Starfish One by One relies on the support of individuals with a commitment to being part a more just and interconnected world. Your donations all go to programs that enhance the educational opportunities and empowerment of young Guatemalan women and their families… one by one.

We invite you to support the Starfish efforts in the following ways:

• Group Sponsorship ($3750)- Sponsorships of entire 15-member mentorship groups is a unique way to make a truly significant impact.  These are traditionally group sponsorships from book clubs, chapters, social clubs or classrooms that commit to supporting the academic costs of a Starfish One by One peer support group.  This is an excellent way for existing groups to channel their synergy towards securing the education for 15 young women.  Individuals are also invited to participate this way.  Group sponsorships are entitled to continual communication with the sponsored group via letters, group reports, and video.

• Teach Financial Skills ($500)- The mentorship programs walk young woman through several key subject areas, such as reproductive health, environmental stewardship, critical thinking and others.  $500 would support the 3-month training of an entire group of 15 young women on the critical subject of financial literacy.

• Individual Sponsorships ($250)- Starfish One by One has a limited sponsorship program in which donors cover the academic costs of 1 student for an academic year. Spaces in this program are limited.  Individual sponsors have direct and regular communication with their sponsored student via letters.

• Mentor sponsorship ($150)- Help sponsor the training and work of the most unique part of the Starfish Program: the community role model that serves as the mentor. Supporters of this critical process will receive continual updates that detail what mentors are doing, what trainings they are attending, what their current challenges are, and biographical narratives from select mentors.

• Field Trips ($150)- Sponsor a field trip for 1 or more groups. Starfish One by One tries to expose young women to their own national resources such as museums, archeological sites. This is about $10/student per trip. Donors in this category receive informative reports about the field trip.

• Sanitary Napkins (varied)- Many young women miss significant days of school because she does not have access to sanitary napkins. While Starfish One by One is currently researching locally produced and hygienic pads, but in the meantime the organization spends approximately about $1000/year for the 120 young women in the program.  This is an easy way to make a significant impact in the everyday life of a young woman.

• Books ($5-100)- Access to textbooks is a luxury that eludes most students in Guatemala.  Starfish One by One has a constant need to acquire school textbooks that the young woman can access in our facilities.
