What We Do
We invest in the education of adolescent girls who otherwise would have no education beyond 6th grade. We have found that the educated girl transforms herself, her family, her community, and her world.
Our target population is adolescent rural Mayan girls in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala.
Our purpose is to identify and nurture community leaders through mentorship and education of these young women.
Why Girls?
Because Educating the next generation of leaders in rural Mayan communities brings TRANSFORMATION.
An educated girl marries later, has fewer children, and is able to provide better medical care and nutrition for her family. This leads to a very high probability that she and her children will survive, and that her children in turn will receive an education. An educated woman earns more income. When she earns income, she reinvests 90% of it into her family. This investment transforms the community. The cycle of poverty is broken.
Better Health + More Income + Reinvestment = Transformation
